NYPD dropping its 36,000 Windows Phones for iPhones

What does one do when Microsoft drops support for its own Mobile OS? You just ditch it. Only a few months ago Microsoft dedicated to branch out Windows 10 Insider program for Mobile and only made sure fixes were rolled out. Throughout the year we have seen major companies dropping support for their app.

The same happened with NYPD which bought like 36,000 Windows Phone for their officers, and now they are ditching it in favor of iPhone. The selection of Windows Phone was itself very surprising because Microsoft had stopped rolling out features, and stopped support many devices. Whoever selected Windows Phone for their fleet must have overlooked, and trusted Microsoft too much on this front. I am sure he must be getting a lot of backfire for investing $160 million on those devices.

New York Post reports that finally, the department has made a sensible move by choosing iPhone. Not only the investment was made for the devices,  a lot of investment was rolled for custom apps, and now that it has no future, the decision was inevitable. The worst part was that the company invested in Lumia 830, and 640 XL on which Windows 10 Mobile ran utterly slow.

I hope that NYPD and any other department must have clearly understood that depending on something safe, and persistent is a way to go.
