Official Broadband SpeedChecker App Arrives on Windows Phone

Broadband Speedchecker (broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk) is a popular speed test service, specially in UK with global servers across the globe has officially launched their app for Windows Phone 8 devices and the user interface is just stunning.

The app lets you test your internet speed be it on mobile or your WiFi on servers in US, UK, Tokyo and Brazil.  Once you install and launch the app, using is pretty simple. All you need is hit the “Start Speed Test” button and it will immediately the run the tester and collect data for ping, download and upload. There is a speed gauge which gives you a feeling on how touch the testing is going on.

There is a WIFI or Mobile Network icon on top right which tells you if the app is testing the mobile or the wi-fi network.

So what’s so different about the app ?

Till this, the app does what everybody else does but after this everything changes. If you remember the Battery Performance app for Windows Phone which brough the impressive UI and performance analysis tool, the same developer has built this app and included the same kind of tools within the app.

  • You can check your last result with details on download time for video and MP3.
  • History
  • A graph for you to compare how the download and upload been behaving.
  • A statistics for avg. upload and download speed, ping time.
  • An advance statistics included if you want to see details for cellular and wifi separately.

That said, the app does misses the stats where users can compare it to the global score and this should be rolled out in future. We hope to see it soon.

Also available for Windows 8

The app is available for Windows 8 and has implemented the same kind of user interface and stats. It should be a great add-on for your Windows 8 device.

Download

If you are pretty much convinced to download it, here are few facts:

  • The app doesn’t allow you to change servers without an IAP of $0.99 and without this, I see a lot of difference compared to when you pay and change server.
  • When you enable, it also tells you Network Name, Strength, Disables Advert and so on.

While compared to the Official SpeedTest.Net the app beats it compared to UI and overall features but then if selecting servers gives better results and its an IAP, It beats the overall idea of the app. I hope this gets a fix.
