Official Ticketing App for Mumbai & Chennai Suburban Trains Now Available on Window Phone

Indian Railways has launched yet another Windows Phone app, making it easy to book tickets for Mumbai and Chennai Suburban Trains on the go. While it is possible to book it via the web, the official app to book train tickets did not have this feature during the launch.  Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS)  has made a separate app that makes more sense for those who travel in and out of the city.

Features of the app:

  • Your mobile number to register with the booking system.
  • Set your default preference, including default routes.
  • You have the option to book a ticket quickly where you need to enter source, destination, and the rest of the details are picked up automatically.
  • You can View, Cancel and Rebook tickets when required.
  • The payment mode is only through R-Wallet. You should maintain enough balance in your R-Wallet, which can be done online only.
  • Edit profile lets you change your default option.

One of the app’s drawbacks is that it pulls the station list live, which means it could be flaky if your internet connection is not working. Hopefully, in the next update, this will get resolved.

It’s great to see another local Indian App to be available in the Windows Phone store. Kudos to the Indian team for making this a reality.  Let us know how is your experience with the app.
