OneDrive vs Dropbox Camera Upload on Windows Phone. Which One to Choose ?

After Dropbox’s recent launch of the official app for the platform, they have now rolled out the option to auto-upload your pictures to your Dropbox account from Windows Phone. While OneDrive delivers native integration for Windows Phone when it comes to auto uploading pictures, which is seamless, but if you are more of a Dropbox user, this is good news for you.

Here is how to enable the feature:

  • Install the Dropbox App and Login.
  • Next got to settings in the app, which is in the menu bar.
  • Select Camera Upload & Enable it.
  • You may choose dot upload only when the app is open and prevent uploading it to use Cellular Data.

The important thing to notice is that this does not override OneDrive. It is still enabled, with the settings you have preset it with. Dropbox App or any app which you choose to use in the future works independently from OneDrive. If you want to disable OneDrive for photo upload, you need to do it from Settings > Photos + Camera > Auto Upload  > OneDrive and choose don’t upload for both videos and photos.

Lastly, it is very much possible that you may not have a lot of space on your Dropbox compared to OneDrive unless you are a premium user or an ancient account that has a lot of referral space. OneDrive comes with 7 GB of storage space even for new user sign-up.

IMO if you are holding a Windows Phone with an amazing camera, like the 1020 or the 730 or even the 830, it is wise to use OneDrive to upload high-quality pictures, especially for RAW edits,  but if you don’t, Dropbox should suffice your need. Which one are you choosing?
