PhotoMath On Windows Phone Solves Equations Using Camera
Its time you hide your phone from your kids, if they have just started learning to do addition and subtractions. An app in the Windows Phone store is here to spoil things.
PhotoMath–an app which can find a solution to simple mathematical equation, if you just point your camera to the question. Open up a textbook which has elementary arithmetic like “458 + 932 =” or an equation which follows the BODMAS rule like “-234/50+(30+5)*4/5.2”, it can solve it with a flick.

As of now it supports, simple arithmetic expressions, fractions and decimals, power and roots. What is not supported is what you always wanted–trigonometric functions, complex equations and calculus. So yup, a little grown up kids aren’t lucky, just yet.The app maintains a history of equations you have it scanned. You can tap and see step wise solution for detailed explanation.
Many of you might think that its simply scanning each number, and operators and then doing the mumbo jumbo, it’s not that simple either. Using the right logic with right logic is a big challenge. If the app can implement solving calculus and complex equations, its going to be super awesome. IMO that should be a paid feature.
That said, it’s truly awesome to have an app like this, it also shows how much innovation can come in through development.
