Photos Add-ins Lets You Save Moments from Videos in Windows 10 Mobile
Remember when Microsoft retired a couple of apps like Lumia Creative Studio? I expected and hoped that all these apps come back in some form to Windows 10 Mobile, and Photos Add-ins, aka Lumia Moments, is the first example of this.
Lumia Moments allowed you to save part of the video as an action shot (animated) or one single shot with the best possible quality. Photos Add-ins is a new app for Windows 10 Mobile which does the same, except that it is integrated into Photos App this time.

In Windows Phone 8.1, apps like Lumia Moments, Creative Studio, etc., only worked when you open the image by first launching the camera app and then selecting the preview images from there. This is all about to change.
Instead of creating separate apps, Microsoft seems to be following the way of Plugins or Add-ins. Now you can open a photo from anywhere and then save a moment right from there itself. Now imagine if all those brilliant apps like the Lumia Story Teller get integrated within the Photos App. It will make the inbuilt app of Windows 10 Mobile incredible.

How do you use the Photos Add-ins App:
- First, make sure you have installed the app. However, it will get listed in your Apps section.
- Now open any video using the photo app. You will see an option that says “Saved Photos from Video.” You get the option when you edit the edit icon.
- Next, you can use the slider and choose the best moment or best action shot. You may also add a strobe effect to your photos to show action or add blur to emphasize motion.
*Note: You don’t need a phone to capture 4K videos to get this done. It should never have been the case.
** The App crashed many a time when using this feature.
What is next?
Microsoft is moving from Apps to Features, making their core apps more powerful and feature-rich. This is something every consumer will appreciate, and it should allow dev to integrated their apps into the Photos app in the future. Why not bake it directly into the photo app? It’s a matter of choice, and modular is easy to keep everything updated separately.
