Photos App on Windows 10 will Scan Faces, Add Filters and Effects in Near Future

Microsoft is working on a feature for Photos App in Windows 10 Mobile and PC, which will allow the system to scan for faces and recognise them with a bit of training. This feature is already available on OneDrive which allows one to help the system learn by tagging them with a person name, and later organise them by that tag.  I still remember this tag feature was available with Windows 7.

If you take a look at the current photo app, its decent enough for daily usage, and bit of photo editing, and it does allow you to launch external apps for photo editing, like Lumia Creative Studio, right from the photo view. WINBETA reports that Microsoft is planning to add this feature for devices which are on RedStone.  The app will scan photos for faces, use metadata for location and then let you categorise them accordingly. In Simple words “Sort by Faces”.

OneDrive Tag for Windows 10 Photos

Microsoft is also working to enhance the current editing power of the Photos app by allowing you to doodle on the photos, something the developers there are very enthusiastic about, introduce filters, effects and so on. Windows 10 store has some really good photo editing apps, and Microsoft is learning one or two things form them.

This feature may or may not appear in near future i.e. Redstone  1 or 2, and but stay excited that this is coming.

To try this out on your OneDrive, if it has lot of pictures uploaded. Go to OneDrive > Photos > Tags. You should have a tag which says #People. Right click on any of the picture, and select edit tag. Here you can add a tag which can be a name of the person. Later you can sort the person with the tag easily.
