Putty is a very popular Telnet and SSH client for Windows and Unix platforms, along with an xterm terminal emulator has now made its way to Windows Phone. Inside, it’s the same version you had used till date but with an interface which suits Windows Phone. The app has been in development from sometime and today made its first beta appearance.
Features of Putty
The best part of this app is that comes with tons of options that any terminal user wanted to get the same experience. You have dedicated section for
- Terminal to configure Keyboard, Bell and settings in general.
- Display lets you configure appearance, colours, translation, scroll settings and so on.
- Connection supports Proxy, Telnet, Rlogin, SSH
- Once you connect to any network, the session information is stored and can be reused again.
- Supports portrait mode for full keyboard access.
- Create new sessions using Host Name, Connection type, Port and username.
- Keyboard is customized for better usage on command line interface.
Once connected with a host i.e. servers and devices, you can perform tasks using the command line like you had done it from Windows or Unix platforms. That said the app will draw interest of network admins or server admins. Since Windows Phone is growing into enterprise, this app is a warm welcome and hats off to the developer to get this done.
Apply for Beta
The App is in private beta which means if you need to download, you need to get your Windows Phone Microsoft Account email id to be in the beta list. The dev gave us permission to share it with you, so I will strongly recommend to admins to go ahead and shoot an email to [email protected]. This way you will be able to make this even better.
