This came in rather quickly. It’s not long Microsoft had rolled out the official Windows 10 Mobile upgrade, and today they have announced Redstone Build ( 14XXX) for all the Lumia Phones except for 635. Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL got this update last week. Microsoft has also included the Non Lumia phones which are eligible to receive the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade.
Those who never got a chance to play with Insiders before, it will be an interesting experience to try out features which they have been only hearing about. However be warned that these updates are bleeding edge. You will face a lot of bugs, and features which might not work as expected. So unless you are very enthusiast about it, skip it.
I still remember many a times we had to reset the phone, and then upgrade or even upgrade, reset and then try. Lot of pain, so it’s not for faint hearts and definitely not for those who have just one phone for primary usage. Here are the known issues with this build:
- If you reset your phone on this build (Build 14291) and restore your phone from a backup, restore will fail to install apps from your backup’s apps list leaving blank grey titles on Start.
- If you have a Microsoft Band 1 or 2 paired to your phone, it will no longer sync after updating to this build due to a system API failure that occurs after the update.
- The Gadgets app will not detect the Microsoft Display Dock on phones running Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview builds, and thus cannot update the firmware version.
- There is a new option under Settings > Update & security for Windows Insider Program. This is a work-in-progress option to improve managing your Windows Insider Program settings on your device. Right now, if you go to this option it crashes the Settings app. Please continue to use the Windows Insider app to manage your settings for now.
