GDR3 Allows You to Restrict Background Data on Roaming using Data Sense
While there are many features that we discovered when exploring the GDR3, one that caught my attention was yesterday–DataSense–it now allows to restrict background data limit when on roaming.
This is an extremely useful setting for anybody who wants to use data, specially when out of country or city and wants to control everything manually. Another feature which I thin is new is an option to choose data sense service to reduce data consumption when you open a web link on your browser ( Depends on your Network Operator also)

Prior to the GDR3 update, the roaming and data sense service was not present as you can see in the picture above.
This opens up an option to conserve mobile data when you want and without turning off your data from Mobile Settings. You just need to turn it on and choose to use this ALWAYS instead of limit options. Also note, that when you turn this restriction on, apps based on VOIP, background upload and even live tile update will stop working.
As far as India is concerned, most of the operators allow same data charges when it comes to country roaming. So when I am on roaming I use my data as I am in my city which makes this almost useless for me but for countries or operators which don’t allow this globally, this is a very handy feature one should make use of. Another indirect advantage is you save on battery!!
Did any of you using Data Sense used this feature? How do you find it useful? Let us know in comments.
