Review : Mugen Battery for Lumia 820

Mugen Powers, an impressive company which produces batteries for various mobiles. They have a very strong repo in the market. Sometimes back when they announced Lumia 820 Battery of 3600 mAH. We received this battery around a week back and after 3-4 cycle of charging, the battery has started impressive with is longevity. I tested the battery  for idle, moderate and heavy usage and below are my three days test result.

Usage Details

I had charged up the battery to 100%. Also this was done after 3-4 times I had already drained the battery.

First  Day :  Left  idle for most of the day with very low usage for calls and bit of emails. Did not turn on my cellular data and kept the phone only Wi-Fi..

Battery Stats  Drop by 10%

Second day : Moderate usage on 3G and Wi-Fi, calls, browsing, Twitter, Facebook, Feed reading and 15 minutes of games.

Battery Stats Drop by 35%

Third Day: Heavy usage on 3G only.  Apart from what I have already mentioned, I played games for an hour, used twitter for an hour, feed reading 30 minutes with browsing.  Emails, Attachments etc. However the battery did not last for the day but only for 8 hours.

Battery Stats Drop by 50%

It lasted for 2 days 4 hours which is the time I picked from my last charge time under Settings > Battery Saver.

That Said, you can expect your battery to last for 2 days approximately or more depending on how you use it. If it’s about gaming, it’s going to last over a day else 2 days is dead sure.

Build Quality & Deign

Both the battery and the backdoor case has good build quality. You wont be disappointed that you bought a bad quality product. The backdoor makes the phone lot thicker when compared to the standard phone thickness. I did not have any problem when using buttons which comes fitted with the back door.

One thing which I did notice that the fitting of the battery case is pretty tight. This means it will be bit difficult to take it out unless you have a nail or a playing card to swipe in and pull the battery off.

Battery Backdoor :

I thought of not discussing about it but hen I thought its important even if I had this rare issue. Mugen Power’s Lumia 820 battery pack  comes with a battery door which can accommodate both battery and the phone.

I have this strange problem where my voice over calls was cut off unless I was speaking a bit louder than normal and sometimes my friends said I was speaking through a pipe. When  I spoke with the battery door off, it juts works fine. The case does not even cover the microphone from any angle.

I am guessing that the battery door in my case is kind of faulty and I will ask the Mugen guys to send me another one so at least I get to know where the fault is. I asked a couple of friends who used this battery and none of them said they had the problem. As a matter of fact, I never had problem with the default case that comes with the phone.

Conclusion:

If you are always on travel and keep a battery pack which also runs out of battery, MugenPower Battery for Lumia 820 is a must have for all those 820 users. It not only makes sure the you can stay in touch and make calls all the time but even when used for long hours did not need a charge. So you can skip charging if you ever felt very tired.
