Review : TYLT Capio Smartphone Car Mount

Today smartphones have become essential part of our life, getting us connected to the Internet when we are on the move. Smartphones have also played an important role in navigation while you are driving. There are quite a lot of car holders available in various sizes and shapes, but most of these are not reliable because they either cannot hold on to all surfaces in the car or they fall down with the weight of the device.

We were impressed with even the quality of the packing from TYLT. There are three components for the car mount, one is the phone holder, second is the grip for mount and third is the supporting arms. The build quality and the materials used for the car mount is top notch and we couldn’t find any loose edges. The bottom grip has a sticky surface along with suction mechanism. The ball joint neck makes it easy to move the phone even when you have fixed it. The top portion or the area where you keep the phone has a sticky technology which is patented.

The non-magnetic sticky pad is really a joy to use, just keep the phone on to the surface and it instantly sticks to it. The sticky mechanism is so strong that the phone won’t fall down of its own and it is also easy to pull out the phone. Generally when you use a sticky mechanism, you get the feeling that the phone also gets some of the gum while removing. But Capio does not cause any harm to the phone.

The supporting arms are not required even though it is available in the box. You can use it to add additional support to the phone.

Now, if your phone has NFC enabled, you have an added advantage that Capio comes with NFC chip in-built. The Capio with NFC can be mounted on a dash board for easy access. The Capio will instantly adjust to fit any phone and can instantly be detached and repositioned. In addition to hands-free support, the CAPIO allows the driver to use their NFC-enabled smartphones to set up custom profiles for an easier and safer drive using NFC Task Launcher.

We had concerns on how will the sticky pad will act when it is subjected to dust and other factors over a period of use. When you use it for long time, it may collect dust and ambient dirt in the air and will lose some of its original stickiness. But you can easily bring it back to new like, just run the sticky material under warm water lightly brushing off the dirt and dust with your fingers. This is again an awesome feature of Capio. You can clean Capio every couple of months.

The Capio sticks to most surfaces out there (glass, wood, metal, plastic, composites, etc.), except for oily or extremely rough surfaces where the suction cup can’t get a strong vacuum to grip the surface.

Using Capio in the car is pretty easy, especially if you want to use maps. There is no obstructions from any of the phone holder like in normal car holders. Since Capio uses the sticking pad, all the buttons on the phone are easy to use.
