RIP Nokia X; Was it Just an Experiment or a Bait for Microsoft
Little hard to believe it but not surprising either. In a letter to his employees, Stephen Elop said that “we plan to deliver additional lower-cost Lumia devices by shifting select future Nokia X designs and products to Windows Phone devices. We expect to make this shift immediately while continuing to sell and support existing Nokia X products.”
This essentially means, that Nokia X 2 might be the last of its kind with minimal updates coming till the life cycle of the product. However the essence of the Nokia X platform will live with its designs in upcoming low end Lumia phones. This is effective immediately.

He also said that there will be a dedicated team that will be responsible for success of the Lumia Products and transition of the Nokia X products to Lumia and for the ongoing operation of the first phone business.
My Thoughts :
After Sathya Nadela, CEO of Microsoft sent out his memo, it was clear that getting Microsoft’s service is on top priority and it needs to be on any platform and just not Windows. This was a step back from Devices priority pushed by the previous CEO, Steve Ballmer.
This means, it makes little sense for Microsoft to invest and develop Nokia X Platform which is forked out of Android. It might have generated a little buzz but keeping in mind the long term perspective, Microsoft needs to keep bunch of guys working on it. Microsoft Services are already rolling on Android platform and its an extra cost for them.
Honestly, Now it feels like being deceived. I personally used the platform and I know a lot of users who I recoed and they bought it. In fact a lot of people I know were waiting for Nokia X 2 because of their trust in Nokia. This kills it and now it only feels that either it was just an experiment or a bait for Nokia to sell its handset business to Microsoft. What’s your Thought
