Samsung ATIV S is Finally Interop-Unlocked; Big Day for WP8 Homebrew Community
We told you its coming; Windows Phone 8 registry has been finally hacked to make sure one will be able to Read, Write and Update existing registry on Samsung ATIV S to start. Samsung Windows Phone devices have been known to be hacked by the XDA Devs in past and as a matter of fact most of the hacks which came out were for the Samsung devices and none for the Nokia Lumia devices.
Our incredible developer, GoodDayToDie has posted his update on XDA forum where they were trying to fiddle around with launching toast notification natively.
The process, as expected, relies on Samsung Diagnosis App running on Stock TELUS Mobility ROM, standard AppHub dev unlock. If you have the device you should be able to do it. Those who aren’t aware, it is possible to unlock your device for free now.
He was able to install apps with both ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES, and with non-public capabilities (internal or private), and they run.
Windows Phone 8 has been known to be the toughest to hack into, specially the Lumia devices for which the access is yet to be looked into. The above screenshot clearly shows that it is possible to update the DWORD stuff. Recently GoodDayTODie released a read only registry tool which allows dev to look into the registry and read the values.
If you want to try this on your Samsung ATIV S, there is XAP file waiting for you to deploy on your unlocked phone!!. It will not only Interop-Unlock your phone but also give you full registry access.
However, we still need the same kind of functionally in Lumia devices as it owns most of the market share and if the homebrew community needs to get the same kind of success they had with Windows Phone 7.X.
Nokia Lumia devices have Extras + Info which does a lot of magic in the registry. We hope this will come soon.
