Side-loading Apps to Windows 10 Mobile will Soon be Through Web Interface

When it comes to Side-loading apps on Windows Phone devices, there never had been an easy way to do it. Call it Microsoft’s own way of thinking or call it security…it wasn’t straight way, specially after Windows Phone 8.1 where rooting a device was almost impossible. Things are about to change, and go super easy in future.

In a recently leaked build, Microsoft has introduced a Device Portal, a web interface that runs inside the phone, which allows developers to easily deploy XAP files to Windows 10 Mobile devices to test apps. At least by the looks of it, it doesn’t look like it will need a developer tool to be installed on the PC. The developer can deploy .APPX and APPXBundle files and other dependencies to their phones. It is also possible to un-install the apps.

This web interface has a minimal interface that let developers find out how the side-loads apps are doing. You get separate pages for performance, device, networking, running processes etc. Developer can easily figure out how much CPU, GPU and RAM the app is consuming when being used, and when in idle stage.

That said, what is not know if how easy it would be for a regular user to get access to it. I am guessing it will be all open like it is on Android, but lets wait for it to get official.

Particularly looking at this development, Microsoft is changing things by leaps and bounds. Right from just being concentrated and closed on all sides, Microsoft is opening up the platform for all, and its making its own platform easy as well. Let’s see how it comes out finally.
