Skype Launches Lighter version of Skype for Mac, Windows 10 November Update, Windows 8, and Windows 7 users

Skype, Microsoft’s Messaging & Video Call App, doesn’t really have a history where we can be proud of it. The team has made several attempts to boot it up, connect with services, and make it look like one of the best apps in the world, and they haven’t really succeeded, if not failed.

Today, Microsoft has released another revamped interface of Skype, in the preview, and it looks like they just deployed the mobile version for Mac, Windows 10 November Update and lower, Windows 8, and Windows 7 users. It’s called as Skype Preview  It’s light weight, and its incomplete, and Microsoft wants user feedback to make it better, and complete.

While all these OS versions except for Mac, are about to expire in a couple of months. I am not sure why Microsoft wants to put an effort, and there is only one reason, Microsoft still has user base there, and some sort of support is expected. As of now, the major work is done keeping in mind “Chat” as the center of the earth.

  • More emotions, icons, and expressions when it comes to chatting with friends, and family. Group calls, with real-time screen and photo sharing.
  • Just like Twitter, and WhatsApp you have @mentions, message reactions, and notification which helps you get exactly where you need attention.
  • All Images in one place in a group chat which also includes links, documents, and media files.
  • Customize your group call experience with drag and drop ease. Say it with an emoji using our new in-call reactions, too!

That said, the app is NOT available for PCs which are running Windows 10 Anniversary update or higher. However, if you still want to try, on a version where you cannot use it, you can always use the compatibility mode to choose the right OS, and try it out.  On the latest version of Windows 10, Skype has been built using UWP tech, rather than WIN32, and that’s what everyone should be using.  More here
