Skype Universal App “Preview” is Now Available for Windows 10 PC, Mobile & Tablets

After a long wait and many buzzing stories, Microsoft has finally ruled out the Universal version of Skype for all devices running on Windows 10, including Mobile, Tablets, and PCs.  It’s in the Preview version and available for Redstone builds only, which means as of now, it may not work on all devices unless you are on Insiders build.  This will change after August 2nd, when Microsoft rolls out the anniversary update to all.

This particular release can have up to 25 friends and family come together on a free group video call. The app also supports reply from notifications, which is very important if you want to get things done without launching it.

Another important feature that is coming to Skype is Universal Messaging. Microsoft initially rolled this feature with Windows 10 Mobile messaging app, but then later pulled it off only to merge with Skype. This is a similar approach to Facebook Messenger, Google Hangouts, and the best part is that the app is available on all platforms, making it a better approach.

The app definitely looks well done and follows the universal design available in all UWP or the universal apps. Finally, a good push for Skype has been awaited since the acquisition.
