Synaptics multi-factor biometric fusion engine for PCs and Mobile can replace passwords for good

It only took a year for Fingerprint sensors to become a mandatory feature in smartphones. It is not just hassle free, it just works, and putting in PIN or Pattern gets boring. So how do you take this to the next level? Synaptic has found a way.

Synaptic Multi Factor Fusion Engine

The company has announced a new multi-factor biometric fusion engine for almost any device which we use today including PCs, and Smartphones.  The best part of the engine is that it can handle both fingerprints, and facial recognition. The company has launched a new FS9100 sensor which can detect fingerprints right on the screen, and even on a 2.5D screen.  Imagine that in future all you need to do is look at your screen or touch it to unlock the phone or pc.

“Synaptics’ Natural ID fingerprint sensors are already significantly more secure and convenient than typed passwords, and by adding multi-factor biometrics users achieve a whole new level of exceptional device- and application-level authentication,” said Anthony Gioeli, vice president of marketing, Biometrics Product Division, Synaptics. “Phase one of our fusion engine is focused on fingerprint and facial, and future iterations will include additional biometric and security factors.”

The tech has been developed in partnership with KeyLemon, which has excelled in face recognition technology, making it possible to create a fusion engine which can support multiple authentication.
