Think Xbox One Installs are Slow ? Microsoft Exec Admits it

Call it a coincidence, but yesterday I felt that game and app installs are slow on Xbox One, right after I got it. Today, I read on Gamespot, that intact they are, and Microsoft Exec Admits it.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer, in a Podcast with IGN, said they are aware of it, and they are also aware why its happening. If you remember Xbox One was initially designed to stay online, always. This was dropped later on because of fan base, and lot of rage, but Phil blames that its happening because of that.

It seems being online all the time, the phase and resume phases never happened, and small bits of codes was being downloaded all the time.

Spencer said that as a result of this drop, all the install code-flows were not perfect as they could be. He also said that It’s really the developer pipeline and Xbox One ingestion system where work has to be done to get this flow right.

“Are there systemtic reasons for that? Our drive’s obviously the same speed, moving stuff into memory takes the same amount of time; hard drive speed’s basically the same, so what’s going on?” he said. “I’m capturing the data. I want to be state-of-the-art in install times so people can start playing games as soon as possible. It’s high on my priority list.”

That said, speeding up the installation, which also includes the download process, is on high priority list for Xbox One team. There is no timeline mentioned for this, but this should happen if they want to stay in the game!

Microsoft reported great profits yesterday, and we hope more effort can also be diverted to Xbox department as well.
