Video : Homebrew Bluetooth Chat App for Windows Phones and PC

Want to communicate with your Peers having Windows Phone to chat about something or even if somebody is on PC ? Windows Phone Developer, navisluni, has created a homebrew app for all unlocked Windows Phone to communicate with each other over Bluetooth. Even though Windows Phone is marked for noy opening up their Bluetooth even for file transfer, this app has hacked it over. It uses DllImport from Heathcliff74 and fiinix to get it done.

Bluetooth Chat App for Windows Phone

Features :

To use it, you need to deploy it over the phone and connect with either WP7 device or PC. Remember even though WP7 does not allow to file transfer, it just connects well.

The Application Main screen is the discussion page while the menu bar gives you option to connect with an existing device. There is also an option to use this as server which allows other devices to connect and chat.

When connecting with PC, you will need to use software called as Putty. Its bit complex but this is what it says “From PC search for Device exported services: you’d see a SPP (AUX3) option, if yes select it and then PC will create a new local COM Port”

  • It uses Bluetooth serial communication.
  • It has been tested with dev-ulocked LG Optimus 7, Nokia Lumia 800 and HTC Mondrian. I had also tested it over Samsung Focus.
  • Settings page allows to configure Auto reply and set port number which defaults to 10

As of now there is no possibility File transfer between the phones but I hope that it comes in.
