What’s New with Picture App in Windows Phone 8.1
The Picture App which holds all your pretty snaps has been revamped fir good in Windows Phone 8.1 giving you clear options to use it in a better way and seamless integration of apps makes sure you still get to see your Facebook Albums in native experience.
Instantly Empty The Camera Roll
Long press on the camera roll folder and select “Delete Contents”. This will delete all the images in your camera roll. This comes in handy at two places:
- Clears up some space on your phone.
- When you connect with your PC, you don’t have to wait for boring long minutes for all the pictures to load.
Note: Only do it when you have all the pictures backup. This is why you should have WIFI OneDrive backup enabled.

Picture View By Date and Location:
In Windows Phone 8, there is a date menu which lets you see all photos take by date. This has been move to front and is the default view for the photo app.
It includes pictures from apps, camera roll or any folder you created and imported pictures. Its much easier now to find pictures and manage them on monthly basis. Specially when you need to delete them.

Tap on any of the month to get a list of months and then switch. Also the pictures are then sorted again by day under each month. Very convenient.
Sort Photos by Location: There is an interesting setting in Photos App now. The group by time feature which we just discussed also includes option to use location. It just doesn’t seem to be working now.

The App Integration: Facebook Pictures & More
No more you can see pictures from FB, at least not directly. Instead, you will see list of apps, if you have installed, like Facebook, One Drive and so on. This will launch your Facebook Album directly The pictures in the Facebook albums have options to edit, add to favorites, share etc just like the pictures on your camera roll. This is seamless. However to interact further, you need to open it Facebook and then like, comment or share.
