Why I think Apollo Update for existing Windows Phone will be Tricky

Though we been hearing all stories of  existing Windows Phone upgrades to Next major version of Windows Phone, Apollo but it seems to be kind of official as cited by WMPU at Zwame forum in a video where Microsoft Evangelist Nuno Silva, confirms that Next version of Windows Phone OS will be coming for all.

We kind of predicted that sometimes back, and it looks like Microsoft is following the same strategy as Apple does with iOS where many older devices are supported for a long time. Since Nuno Silva said that it will be coming for even First generation devices, the idea seems to be very clear.

The Real Questions. What kind of Upgrade will come to all devices ?

That’s the most important aspect here and an excitement killer for many but still pleasing for most. Even though now we have a word for for OS upgrade for all the Windows Phone but there is no word on what kind of hardware we might see in Apollo.

Now there can be two things, One either Apollo Phones will have only minor jump when it comes to hardware but lot of improvement in the OS, Making it more competitive to existing Mobile OS. The second can be that a lot of new hardware feature will be included and Non Apollo phones get only OS update which is suitable for their devices.

The second part is tricky when I think from Business Model of phones. If the new OS can still run on old platform with all the features, Why existing users, specially the Second generation phone users will want to make an upgrade ? Or even First Generation will ?

I am guessing but even if all the existing Windows Phone get updated to Apollo, it will be limited which in turn will make users upgrade them selves to Apollo Phones. And I hope I am wrong!!
