Will Intel’s Compute Stick Running Windows 8.1 get the Windows 10 Upgrade?

The Era of Windows 10 is going to begin officially from 29th June, when Microsoft makes it available to public. While many of us are already trying the Windows 10 through the Insider’s preview, the sale of Intel’s Compute Stick running Windows 8.1 goes on sale. The first question that comes to my mind ? Will this device get the Windows 10 Upgrade ?

Intel Compute Stick

It’s an important question. Specially when Microsoft is offering free upgrade to Windows 10 to anybody with a valid licence of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. It is a clear signal from the company, that they want most of the consumers on single platform so everybody gets the same experience.

Technically, the device should get the upgrade because its running the same Windows 8.1 running on Desktop and Laptops. You might have to use a minimum of class 10 32 GB microSD card to make sure you have enough space to download and install the updates when it arrives. You can try to use the Get Windows 10 Upgrade App to see if the notification appears. However it is possible that upgrade might be little delayed just in case the drivers are not yet supported.

I have asked Intel and Microsoft India both, and expect a response from them. IMO, unless the device is confirmed to get a Windows 10 Upgrade, one should hold the purchase.

Update: Yes it will get the Windows 10 Update

How much does it cost?

The price of the device is Rs 10,000 which is pretty good keeping in mind the decent hardware specs, and its portability and specially the ability to be used with any TV having an HDMI port.

Specs: 1.8GHz quad-core Intel Atom CPU, 2GB DDR3L RAM, 32GB eMMC internal memory, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, one HDMI port, full-sized USB 2.0 port, microUSB and a microSD slot.
