Windows 10 Phones OTG Support

As a part of WinHec Conference taking place in China, one of the agenda for the sessions says  ‘Enabling New USB Connectivity Scenarios in Windows 10’.

The session description states the following:

Windows 10 introduces support for USB Dual Role and Type-C, which will enable new wired connectivity scenarios such a phone interacting with USB peripherals, or laptops connecting to an external display using the USB Type-C connector. This session will go into detail on how Windows supports these technologies and what you need to do to enable them

Windows 10 for Phone is due in couple of months, and we are expecting a lot of new devices and with Type-C already approved it make sense to take this forward with Windows Phone. The type c connector allows for power transfers up to 100W which is enough to power up hard drives, USB devices and also project screen to external display.

If you want to try out OTG support in Windows Phone 8.1, the only way to get it done is Ninko, they it only works with their own USB and SD cards. More info on that here.
