Windows 10 Mobile Music & Video Preview Apps : Where are they heading to ?
After trying out Windows 10 Mobile Preview, the best update that Microsoft has rolled out is for the Media Apps. These are the universal apps which obviously is also available on Desktop. After using it for almost a day, I am liking the way its moving forward, and looks much better than whats on 8.1 right now.

Music App (Preview)
If Microsoft is follow the path they have taken up with this app, the much controversial music app is getting a overhaul. it’s not only pleasing to use, its more productive.
- The app is damn fast. There is no “resuming” thing that is happening with the app.
- It will take a bit of time to add the music, but it does that quickly and with a prominent notification.
- The UI & UX is exactly the same as Windows 10 TP for Desktops. You have the hamburger menus and long press at many places. You also have actionable links.
- As you hit the hamburger menu, you get menu options for Recent Plays, Now Playing, Albums, Artists, Songs, Playlists. If Xbox Music is supported in your country, you can even Signin right away.
- Now Playing is my favourite of all of them. First it gives you a full playback control, second you can swipe left to right to right to left to change music. Swipe it up, and it shows the list of next songs that will be played, and quickly switch.
- You can even long press to Play, See Album or Add to playlist.
- If your country supports Xbox Music, you will see option to download songs
Video App (Preview)
Again on similar lines to Video Preview App on the Windows Build with option to play, pause, go full screen, zoom in and also to cast on external device. The later is not working though. One thing I missed in the video app is the music app experience. For example, if I can just swipe the video up in mini mode and still access other videos in that folder, it will be just great. Something similar to YouTube player where you can keep looking at other videos, while one is playing in mini mode.
What do I think ?
That said, I am still looking forward to the combination of Windows Phone Menu & Hamburger. As of now everything is deep rooted in the hamburger, and using thumb all the time is difficult. This is why we need the regular menu option. Lets see how it shapes up.
