Microsoft rolled out major update to Windows 10 aka Threshold 2 for Windows 10 consumers, when going through the Microsoft Official Forums, it is no surprise that many of you are actually facing problem while updating the computer. One of these common problem is Update getting stuck at or around 44%. This is a typical issue which is caused by SD Card, and the only option to remove it and the update will start going ahead.
Microsoft Moderators are active on the Windows 10 Forums and this is what they said for that particular error:
We’ve observed that some devices that have an SD bus with an SD card inserted while installing the Windows 10 November update will stop responding at 44%, and we are currently investigating the issue.
If your install is freezing at 44%, check if you have an SD card inserted and remove it, and the update should be able to progress beyond this spot. If you needed the SD card for additional disk space, see if you have a USB/Mini-USB port available that you can use instead for the upgrade. Otherwise, you may have to try freeing up some disk space off the hard drive.
If you’re hanging at some percentage other than 44%, please create a new post. More
Apart from this, always make sure you have enough space on your C drive or the portion where you are installing Windows 10. This will make sure that Update program is able to download, and have enough space during installation for temporary files.
Share System Summary
I also noticed a couple of people reported that there was no error reported when the update failed. For those you can try sharing the system summary files with folks at the Microsoft Forums to help you out. Follow the steps below:
- Hit Win+R on keyboard, and then type msinfo32 and click OK .
- Place the cursor on System Summary. Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. Click Save.
- Do not place the cursor within the body of the report before exporting the file. The system creates a new System Information file each time system information is accessed. You need to allow a minute or two for the file to be fully populated before exporting a copy.
- Please upload the file to your OneDrive, share with everyone and post a link here. Reports in normal mode preferred. Please say if the report has been obtained in safe mode. If the report is in a language other than English, please state the language.
Disabling the Insider:
Interesting note by Brad here for those using Insiders Preview and did not download update last week. He says that you need to disable the Insiders Preview mode ( Update and Security > ) and then check for the update again. According to Gabriel Aul, the problem is wrong queue up thats happening in this case.
The problem could be endless, so best is to head out to Official Forums and take their guidance.
