Microsoft has finally started to rollout the new version of Windows 10 Technical Preview for Phones and her is what is new in this current version. I am sure part of it was already being seen in form of leaks, and there are a lot of underlying changes as well. You get to know that when you install the Windows 10 TP.
Project Spartan:
While Microsoft is testing it internally, it is still in early preview. Instead of just rolling out the new rendering engine, you get a new browser which uses it to give greater interoperability with the modern mobile web.It also includes Reading View and Reading List. However, its not the default browser right now, so you will need to use it separately and send out feedback.
New mail and calendar apps:
You are going to love these new fresh apps from Microsoft which has changes the UI and merged both of them. You can toggle to move between your email and calendar without getting to start screen all the time. Its productive because many a times, you need to check on date before replying. It includes:
- Customizable Swipe Gestures,
- New email authoring experience which uses WORD engine to create richer experience on emails. Something you already get in web based versions.
- Outlook Mail and Outlook Calendar connects to Office 365, Exchange, Outlook.com, Gmail, Google Calendar, Yahoo!, IMAP, POP and other popular accounts.
Interesting to note that Email + Accounts page has been removed from the settings page. You need to add and remove from Outlook Mail and Calendar.
New Phone and Messaging apps is also being rolled out. Not much details are known right now about it, but my guess is that it will be a universal messaging app, and you will be able to access it from Windows PC as well.
New People app: This has been refreshed for better usability.
New Maps app: This new version somehow combines both Bing and Here Maps integrated together for the firs time into one app. At least this get rid of confusion of which Map app to use.
New app switcher : Windows Phone 10 now allows you to have 15 apps in the background. This is news because since Windows 7, this did not change. This can be used in both landscape and portrait mode and for Large phones the Lumia 1520 and Lumia 640 XL, you get a new Grid Layout.
If your Windows Insider program is going bonkers, either hit the update button directly or wait for it get fixed
