Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 to bring Bluetooth HID, MAP, HOGP and AVC Support
Microsoft is finally expanding its support for variety of devices that can be connected with Bluetooth. As a matter of fact, Bluetooth LE was pretty late, but the recent update seems to be very promising as it will gives users option to connect with devices, give positive sign for accessory developments and service providers assurance that they go ahead with Windows Phone.

As per Microsoft’s submission at the Bluetooth SIG, with the next update to Windows Phone 8.1 aka Update 2, an update to the Bluetooth Stack will enable lot of profiles. It says:
The second major update to Windows Phone 8.1 expands the range of hardware options while simultaneously opening up the developer experience that enables even more fantastic apps. From the Bluetooth perspective, Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 adds MAP, HID 1.1 , HOGP and Absolute Volume Control support.
What do the profile mean ?
- MAP (Message Access Protocol) will make sure that text messages can be read by smartwatches, Microsoft or non-Microsoft.
- HID support will let anybody connect a bluetooth keyboard to Windows Phone. This could be useful for fable category phones which many use as their primary screen when it comes to office documents and email.
- HOGP will enable connection with Smartwatches.
- Absolute Volume Control helps enable client application to control the volume on a remote device.
