Windows Phone 8 Homebrew Apps might become a Reality
I remember the days of Windows Phone 7 where sideloading and installing homebrew apps was so much fun, thanks to all hacks like WP7 Root Tools, SMS Backup, XAP Handler for IE, and finally special thanks to Guys like Snicker, HeathCliff, GoodDayToDie and Windows Phone Hacker.
When Windows Phone 8 was rolled out, the bootloader was pretty much strict and side loading apps turned out to be very difficult. Though we all left it behind, there where some awesome guys didn’t and Windows Phone Hacker reports that we might see homebrew apps and side loading possible in coming days.
Recently, the official Windows Phone blog announced that developers who unlocked their Windows Phone will be able to sideload 2 apps i.e. 2 Apps per unlocked phone. Following this Snicker and GoodDayToDie at XDA forum have come up with what they call it as the “Lumia Registry Modifier“, which will make things possible, normally not achievable, possible. This sounds like it will ultimately become WP8 Root Tools!!

If you had ever tried side loading apps, registry hacking was tried on Samsung Devices and also on Lumia 800 to enable USB storage mode.
That said, I will still not suggest you to install the XAP file unless you are early adopter because that’s pure developer stuff there and it’s being tested. It allows to set and get registry values. Moreover this has to be tested for Non Nokia devices and see if it works on them too. Keep an eye on the thread for future progress here
If you are interested in installing homebrew apps, the time hasn’t come yet. We need to have a store, more number of apps to side load and so on.
We will keep you posted when we get to know something everybody can try with!!!
