Windows Phone GDR3 update to bring Orientation Lock, Driver Mode, 1080P & Text Sync

While folks are still waiting for GDR2 from Microsoft and Amber update from Nokia (It’s delayed now),  One of the Reddit users has gone ahead and posted about GDR3 features which brings in one basic feature that should have been there since the start, yup, it’s the Orientation Lock, Folks!!!.

What are the other updates:

  • Driver Mode will turn on automatically when you connect it via Bluetooth. Can reject phone calls / sms and send auto reply back
  • Ability to have 3 medium sized tiles in a row
  • 1080p / new SoCs, which we knew for quite some time now

1080P support will definitely bring some interface changes and probably show up new icons as well.

Features that are being tested and if luck’s good enough can be rolled out with the above:

  • Ability to actually close the apps via multi tasking  — 80% chance
  • Silent NFC (meaning no more constant confirmations for pairing something) — 60% chance

Text Sync over PC and Web

While the user says not to ask for source (because there is none), The Verge has similar posting which talks about text syncing to PCs and Web –This is going to be huge because there is no way to get SMS on demand or retrieve deleted SMS from Windows Phone Backup System unless you have backed up copy.  ( Windows Phone 7 users were lucky enough to have one via hack).

It is also being said that these updates are available for new devices first because they are coming preloaded with the latest updates and GDR3 might not come before mid-September.

Well about the timing we know how long is the wait for the GDR2 update and the Amber update is already testing our patience. Microsoft’s snail pace has also a big update pending which will be on similar lines as Windows 8.1 Blue Update which you may expect in 2014
