Windows Phone SMS Backup App can now backup Facebook, Live Chat Messages
The popular Windows Phone homebrew tool, SMS Backup is updated to backup messages which you receive from Facebook Chat, Windows Live Chat and also it works even more effectively if you use WP7 Root Tools. This is the only tool which allows you to restore all your SMS even when you switch phones and now with chat backup in place, it has reached another level.
To backup Chat Messages, follow the steps as below :
- Download and Install it from here.
- Once installed and updated, hit the menu bar and select Switch to MSN
- This will list down all your chat messages and is threaded which means you can identify your replies.

In case the tool does not work and luckily you have an unlocked phone which can install WP7 Root Tools, try installing it and see if this helps you to get the app work.
However there is one major drawback, instead of the names of the contact for MSN messages or chat messages from Facebook, you will see numbers which makes it very inconvenient and impossible to identify who sent those messages. I am hoping that next version of update will fix this like it was fixed for SMS.
Now you can see the names of Facebook friends instead of just numbers when you switch to MSN mode. You can switch to MSN and Facebook Chat from settings and then hit refresh manually.
Apart from this major change, UI has got a bit of face lift making it more Metro i.e. The way SMS are listed goes along with your theme, Threaded Conversation and there is improvement in Contact Identification which fixes some bugs.
In case you are new to this tool, make sure to read out older posts which has explained on how to use this app, including installation, switching to new phone and restoring sms on it via Video.
