Are Windows Phone Updates Delayed because of Possible Microsoft Restructuring
It is almost one year since Windows Phone 8 features were announced and since then no major update has been rolled out. It is not only disappointing but its also disheartening that Microsoft has been clearly delaying. All we have seen are some of the major apps and games coming to Windows Phone 8 platform but nothing else.
My best hope was the upcoming BUILD event on 26th which has two major keynotes. I expected one to be for Windows Phone. However, when I heard the Joebelfiore wasn’t attending the build and he is busy with Nokia team developing some awesome stuff, I was even more disheartened. Whatever improvement we have seen in the platform, the credit goes to Nokia both in terms of hardware (Lumia 925 & Upcoming Lumia EOS) and software improvement (Nokia Camera App is a big example here).
All that said, major buzz is rumoring around the Internet that Microsoft may undergo a major reshuffle in the company’s structure. The only person who might know about that is Steve Ballmer himself and probably a handful of trusted guys, who report to Ballmer directly. AllThingsD reports that the situation is such that it could mean departure of some of the top executives.
If you are wonder why July 1 — July to June is Microsoft’s Fiscal Year instead of April to March.
Merging Windows 8 & Windows Phone 8
All that mess and with so many things already going on makes me think if all these could be a possible reason why updates are getting delayed for Windows Phone. Now, I know you must be thinking how could structure re-arrangements could delay stuff? It’s already on paper? No.

Yes it is, but Ballmer has been pushing around a lot to make Microsoft into “Devices and Services Company”. Starting with Windows Phone 8, the new OS shares the same kernel with Windows 8 and still stand a lot different. Microsoft makes most of their money from Windows and that’s why we saw more updates for the OS and 8.1 is already on the way. The only OS that lacks many things if not every thing is Windows Phone.
So if Ballmer is planning to unify things, it’s quite a possibility that he would like to merge the Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 to an extent that they could send speedy updates for the phone as well. I am not a technical expert but if this could happen, then Windows Phone would get hell lot of updates & fixes compared to any other OS.
To do this, Microsoft needs a visionary who can see both of these miles apart OS as One and find a path to unify before or when the next version of Windows Phone, Windows Phone 9 gets announced.
Summarizing whatever I have said above, the idea of unification of Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 could all be just guesses. What do you think?
