Review : Brando Wireless Charging Pad for Windows Phone

We received Wireless Charging Plate from Brando couple of days ago which is very similar to Nokia’s Charging Plate DT-900. It was interesting because not only it was big but it came with a separate charging head which has its own advantages.

Build Quality:

Overall build quality of the product is good. Though it’s all plastic but we were glad to find that it wasn’t cheap plastic, specially part of the accessory where you will keep your phone.

If you compare it with Nokia’s charging plate, it doesn’t stand a chance because Nokia’s one is rock solid that even if you drop it, nothing will happen. However with this I am not very sure. Since its pretty light weight and plastic build is not that strong, I wont let it drop.

The charging area is matt finished while backside is glossy. These two texture when put together gives a premium look.

Charging Experience:

When you plug the charger to the power source, a red LED at bottom edge will turn on. This means your charging plate is ready. When you place your phone over the plate, you will get the charging sound instantly and you know its charging.

However to my surprise when I initially started using it, I was shocked that phone did not get charged even when kept for long hours. There is a green LED that will turn on when you place the phone but it was flickering along with a blue LED. After looking at the manual I finally understood the problem.

When you place the phone over the charging plate, you need to be careful where you are keeping it. At the centre of the plate there is a marked area which says “QI Compatible”. First you need to make sure your phone is over it and second you need to make sure that it doesn’t flicker and there is no blue led if the green is on. So you might have to trail and error a couple of times to find the right place. Once you learn that, it’s going to be easy as a pie.

The blue LED shows up when the phone is completely charged. During this time there is no green led glowing.

I would say I am disappointed but not that it doesn’t charge well but using it will need a bit of learning. When using Nokia’s charging plate, I never worried about this kind of situation.

Advantages:

There are certain advantages with this charging plate.

  • First the charging head is separable. So if you don’t have a separate charging point, you can connect the USB head to a battery pack or even with your laptop USB port and charge it.
  • The charging surface is big. This means if you plan to use Big devices like Nexus 4 or S4 etc., you will have enough space.
  • Charging time is as good as Nokia’s Wireless Charging plate.

Where to buy from?

You can but this from Brando by following the link here. The price is et for 48$ which IMO is pricy and not a great add-on if I consider value for money. But if the flexibility and bigger charging area is one of your need, you can go ahead with this.
