Windows Phone High Resolution Photo & Video Upload Option Available Globally

Automatic Photo and Video upload is one of the features that helps you backup all your photos without pushing a single button. This feature been a life savior for many people like me who keep resetting their phone for some reason.

In the same feature there is an option of uploading the pictures and video in high-resolution but it was not available for all the users globally. This option works only when you connect over Wi-Fi. For images normal images has option to upload via mobile network but for Videos, this is only available over Wi-Fi though you an choose to upload high-resolution.

That said, the option was restricted in many countries, including India, and the only reason which was told to me — Restriction from Mobile Operators. Though personally I don’t agree on this.

Today in a blog post, Windows Phone team has shared that this option is not available for all the users across the globe. I in fact noticed this option was turned on yesterday night for me but never saw an update getting rolled out for the same.

In case you never used this feature, the phone is automatically uploaded to your skydrive account with which you have configured the windows phone for the first time. To enable this go to Photos>More>Settings>SkyDrive.

Coming back to operators restriction point, my point seems to be more valid because in the blog post on Windows it says

Finally, a big thank you to the SkyDrive team, who we’ve worked closely with over the months to make this key feature is available globally. As you can imagine, backing up high-res photos and videos involves a lot of data. To ensure we could provide a quality experience in each market, we deliberately took things slow and planned a staged roll out of the feature.

I think it was Skydrive team who wanted to test it with operators first and then rollout the global update for everybody. Nonetheless, this feature is not available for everybody but use it with extreme caution as it uses mobile data which is expensive. Good Luck.
