State of Windows Phone Update : “Nothing has changed” : Users will know it sooner or later
Recent roll out of Windows Phone update to answer bugs like disappearing keyboards etc and then Microsoft’s Announcement that all minor updates will be only rolled out when a carrier requests it has created a big state of bitterness, backfiring and confusion and so much that people like Heathcliff74 had posted on how you can manually update Windows Phone to 7.10.8107.
Before you get eager to click that link here are my suggestions. First unless you are ready for a rough ride don’t attempt it because you may lose data, you may brick your phone, nobody can guarantee that it will work but mostly it has but be just warned.
You can even read the post from Robert Claws who posted a simple version of 8107 update but it failed for Trophy Handset because of driver mismatch. That’s the only thing that is a concern because at the end the update should work with your phone’s driver which comes from carrier or the phone makers.

Also I had a word with @joebelfiore who runs a team doing Windows Phone 7 Product definition and design at Microsoft and said
@joebelfiore: ps – on updates, pls don’t overreact, our focus is on users first! As greg said “nothing has changed” in how we work w carriers on updates.
@ashishmohta: @joebelfiore So is it like all Major updates will be pushed even if carriers don’t ask ?
@joebelfiore: @ashishmohta in Mango, we worked with major carriers in advance to make sure their testing concerns/reqmts were met EARLY. We’ll repeat that
@ashishmohta: @joebelfiore nice. So why not for minor updates? Or the will be pushed with major if carriers dont ask for minor now.
My last tweet has not been answered till not but I am guessing that minor updates might be pushed along with major update so probably there will be a delay.
Another theory that Kip @ LiveSide thinks is that it could be a business decision to make people buy new phones since now its more like Carriers and Vendors will have to ask for updates ( Minor ) they might just delay it so much that people will want to switch to new phone. Strong Stuff but we will have to wait for Tango to roll in and see to how many phones will it come in.
What do you think ? Will we get the updates from MS who has done very well on that part or its going to be same story like Android Devices ?
