Xbox One Creators Update is here, Find out What’s New

Along with Windows 10 PC, Creators Update is available for Xbox One as well, and the rollout has already started. While Microsoft says its big push is in 3D, but after using it for months, I see it’s more about Gaming than anything else. Not only Xbox One has native Beam integration, so does the Windows 10 PC with major Game settings (DVR features), and so on.

Coming back to Xbox One, here is what is new with Creators Update on Xbox One:

Speed & New Guide

It’s much faster now, and you will notice this when you launch the games. The right term for this would be snappy, and it’s for everything that on Xbox One, and not just the games. The beam integration works so smooth, I was surprised.

Then you have a new updated look at the Home. Now when you press the Guide button, you need to press it just once, and the new overlay appears which gets you access to anything that on Xbox. IMO, the Guide is your New Home as you can use this to switch to anything without actually going to the home.

Now when you launch the guide you get quick access to Games and Apps, Home, Store, your recently launched applications, the latest Games and Deals with Gold for Xbox Live Gold members, and your top Pins. This also includes support for background music playback control.

The guide also includes an option for GameDVR which lets you capture gameplay that it lasts up to 5 minutes and within the Guide, you can also ‘Record this’ for up to 10 minutes.

Multitasking:

This is also the first update towards multitasking on Xbox One. You will see it appearing as an overlay at many places including feedback, when posting to groups, controlling music and so on. There is also an achievement tracker which stays floating while gaming to helps you follow the achievements. The same goes for Cortana.

Beam on Xbox One:

Finally, broadcasting is built right into the Xbox One. Once you start streaming, It will use your Microsoft account to set you up, and it’s straightforward. You can watch, chat, and interact with your favorite game streamers in near real-time.

Family Features & Screen Rime limits:

Just like on Windows 10 PC, you can now control when, and how your children use Xbox One. Update with Family features, you can select those limits for your kids, and enforce them when they sign-in. However, you will have to use the web interface to manage them. Head over to microsoft.com/family, turn on and set Xbox One and PC screen time limits separately for each child.

Blu-ray player bitstream passthrough:

This feature allows your receiver to decode audio natively. All bitstream formats are supported, including newer ones like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. However, this feature will enable next week.

Enabling Xbox One to be more accessible for everyone:

We felt it was important to enable Xbox One to make gaming experiences more accessible. Take for instance our new Copilot feature, which allows two controllers to act as if they were one. This will help make Xbox One more inviting to gamers who can benefit from playing along with another person, more fun for families by adding cooperative controls for any game, and easier for players who need unique configurations to play. We are also adding new enhancements to Magnifier and Narrator, as well as giving more options over audio output and custom rumble settings on a controller, which was previously reserved for the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller. You can find these accessibility options, and more, in Settings > Ease of Access.
