Xbox Play Anywhere is a feature that is coming with Windows 10 Upcoming Anniversary update which allows you to play Microsoft Studio games on Xbox or PC with shared save, and achievements. Its like buy anywhere play anywhere, and still carry your whole progress. It’s a brilliant feature and an effort to bring PC and Xbox games to one platform.
When Microsoft initially announced this feature, they said that “Every new title published from Microsoft Studios will support Xbox Play Anywhere “, and it seems now the statement has been silently updated with “Every new title published from Microsoft Studios that we showed onstage at E3 this year will support Xbox Play Anywhere”
It is possible that Microsoft is keeping their options open as of now in case some games don’t make it way to both the platforms, and it could back fire. Well, they it is already happening, specially when the update was done without an official announcement.
PC gamer was first to notice it, and they even got a reply back from Phil Spencer, stating that:
Just clarifying could be unique game not right for all devices. Intent to bring our franchises to Win10 & XB1 is unchanged.
That said, the amendment is not small at all. From being ALL to only Announced at E3 is a huge jump. Xbox and PC games will now have to make sure that they do check in first if Xbox Play Anywhere is supported for those games or not. It won’t be a surprise that if this picks up a lot of heat, Microsoft might backtrack it.
