Xbox to roll Automated Regional Migration Service in Mid January
I remember when I used my first Hotmail Account on my Indian Xbox Console, I was able to see lot many thing which Indian Accounts can never even think about it. Initially I had no idea unless I started playing games a lot and thunder strike came in when I wasn’t able to add my Indian Credit card to the account.
Finally I understood that the problem was with my Hotmail Account locale which was set to US ( the id was my first email id) and I was not alone.
Xbox service does have migration tool in place but they aren’t supported for every country and India was certainly not an option. Finally I had to create new gamertag which a new Live Account or Microsoft Account that can be used in India.
Neowin Reports and Joystiq has a confirmation that Microsoft and Xbox team are testing out a program which will smoothen this process by automating it and probably roll in support for lot many countries than what it is today. Currently it takes around 6 weeks to migrate from date of your region change request.
This service is planned to roll out in Mid January and the existing migration service was locked down on December 14th itself.
This service is supposed to migrate your Gamertag, MS Points, Time left on your Xbox Live, Achievements, etc but if there is anything which is region locked i.e. Xbox Music, Hulu, etc will not be migrated. Also you will be able to make this request once every 3 months. So unless you are planning to move to a new place for a long time, don’t try it.
