The race for Smart Asistant, and dedicated hardware is dominated by few, but strong players including Google, Apple, and Amazon, and now Xiaomi has entered this space with its Yeelight Voice Assistant which is essentially a Cortana powered speaker. Yeelight is a Xiaomi subsidiary which is well know for their affordable smart light.
The best part of this speaker is its price which is just under $30, and looks just like the Amazon Echo Dot. While it not be ready to compete with Amazon with Cortana having around 200 skills, while Alexa has over 20,000 skills now, the price is defintelly luring, and If Cortana can even do 1/3 of what Alexa can, it can help both Xiaomi, and Microsoft, at least in China.
While Microsoft has already opened up with Amazon to bring Cortan to Echo devices, its clear now that Amazon is the not only one on the list.
- A 2-Watt speaker with set of six microphones which can listen from a 5-meter range.
- Its is powered with Acoustic Echo Cancellation, and Beamforming technology for reducing echo
- It is powered by 64-bit enabled 1.2 GHz quad-core Cortex A53 chip, 256MB RAM.
- Supports 2.4GHz/5GHz Dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE.
That said, Yeelight Voice Assistant will be connecting to all smart devices from the Chinense “Smart” giant, includiing option to control lights, pureifiers, and others. I am guessing that Xiaomi should deliver Alexa skill for their devices as well. Xiaomi has revealed that Yeelight Voice Assistant will soon start supporting third part smart home devices.
The speaker is priced at 199 Yuan which is approximately $30 or Rs 1,950, and wil ship from January 31.
