While we are still looking for more clarity on how the Windows 10 Upgrade license will work, but here is one of the most important question that has been answered. If you ever wanted to clean install after upgrading from Windows 8.1 or Windows 7, you will be able to do that. So what is the catch? It should be the same device which you upgraded.
@dinchy87 @PiotrGoreckiJr Once you upgrade W10 w/ the free upgrade offer you will able to clean reinstall Windows 10 on same device any time

- The best part is that you can you wipe drives and go from nothing to Windows 10.
- You can use the downloaded ISO to clean install.
- You Don’t Need to remember the key as well. Gabriel says “Once you have upgraded to 10, you won’t need your key again. Writing it down is good practice though.”
It has to be the same Machine:
The only point Microsoft seems to be emphasising is that it has to be the same machine, and the licence is valid till lifetime of the machine. What is confusing is what happens if you replace parts of your machine? How does Microsoft remembers the machine ? Is it strong in the BIOS? If yes then the only hardware that should survive is your motherboard, and everything can be replaced.
Gabriel said that they are working on getting this information out with clear details. Things are definitely exciting.
